Former A-League import Liam Miller has reportedly been diagnosed with cancer.

The 36-year-old, who played for Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City, will begin chemotherapy this week, according to Scotland-based BBC pundit Tam McManus.

"Awful news about Liam Miller keep the fingers crossed that he somehow pulls through," McManus tweeted.

"Was in the USA for treatment this month and flys back tomorrow to start chemo here.

"He's still fighting it. Will say a prayer for him tonight."

Former teammates including Charlie Adam, Noel Hunt and Chris Sutton have tweeted their support for Irishman Miller and his family.

Miller played in Europe for more than a decade, spending time with clubs like Manchester United, Celtic and Sunderland, before opting for a sea change in Australia.

After two seasons with the Glory, he moved to Brisbane, where he won the A-League premiership and championship in the 2013-14.

He then transferred to Melbourne City after securing a release from the Roar, making two appearances on a short-term contract before continuing his career in Ireland and the United States.
