Hospital funding deal snubs bush

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has struck a deal with the states and territories to set up a new pool of state and federal money to fund hospitals from 2012.The Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) had been pushing for a set of minimum standards to ensure adequate services in country areas. It also wanted new measures to improve staff recruitment and retention.But RDAQ president Dr Dan Halliday told the ABC neither of those issues had been addressed.He says he's also worried that "local'' hospital networks may not be true to their name."We have been concerned that local doesn't necessarily mean local - for example, Goondiwindi will still be controlled by Toowoomba,'' he told the broadcaster.
