TOKYO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar dented issues widely exposed to overseas markets like exporters.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 47.43 points, or 0.20 percent, from Tuesday to 23,407.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.54 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,638.30.

Air transportation, rubber product and transportation equipment issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minuets after the morning bell.
