SPRINGFIELD, Illinois: The state of Illinois has contributed $13 million to its public schools from the sale of specialty license plates promoting Chicago and St. Louis professional sports teams.
The license plates can be purchased at the premium rate of $69 each, with $25 going to public schools.
Since beginning in 2010, the purchases have contributed over $13 million for state schools.
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White recently said there are 71,299 license plates on the road in Illinois featuring the logos of Chicago's NFL Bears, hockey Blackhawks, NBA Bulls and baseball's Cubs and White Sox, as well as the baseball Cardinals of St. Louis.
Sports fans have purchased White Sox, 21,890 plates; Blackhawks, 19,848 plates; Cubs, 13,970 plates; Bears, 8,620 plates; Cardinals, 3,555 plates and Bulls, 3,416 plates.
