SYDNEY, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tennis Australia confirmed on Friday that several cities across the country are slated to host major international tennis tournaments for the upcoming southern hemisphere summer.

Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, and Canberra would all host major events as players gear up for the 112th edition of the Australian Open in Melbourne from January 15 to 28, 2024.

According to the event calendar, the tennis season kicks off with the United Cup in Perth and Sydney from December 29, 2023, to January 7, 2024.

Starting on December 31, the eight-day event Brisbane International will gather men's and women's players for the first time since it was last held in full format in 2019.

The 2020 Brisbane International saw Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic defend her singles title, along with the top-seeded duo of Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Su-Wei and the Czech Republic's Barbora Strycova lifting the women's doubles trophy, while the men's section was discontinued.

Meanwhile, the Canberra International has been expanded and elevated to a combined ATP Challenger 125 and WTA 125 tournament from December 31 to January 6, 2024.

The Adelaide International, a WTA 500 and ATP 250 competition, is scheduled to run from January 8 to 13, 2024, coinciding with the 29th staging of the Hobart International, a WTA 250 event in Tasmania.

Tennis Australia also noted that, in a jam-packed season of tennis, further ITF, wheelchair and junior tournaments would commence ahead of the Australian Open, including the Victorian Wheelchair Open, Rafa Nadal Tour, and Traralgon Junior International.
